Signs, Sign, & Non-signs, of the End

What are the signs of the end of the world? Is there just one composite sign? Are there non-signs?

Warnings not to be mislead:

“Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.” (Matthew 24:4-5)
“Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them.” (Luke 21:8)

The Bible says nothing about any ‘signs of the end,’ in contrast to what is popularly believed by people, and taught by preachers. The Bible says not to look for, or expect to know, a time for the end, but rather, be ready at all times. (Matthew 24:42-44; Mark 13:33-35) Jesus condemned ‘sign-seeking’ when he said:

The Last Days – What Will Be the Sign of Jesus’ Return?

What was Jesus’ response to the question at Matthew 24:3:: “When will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?” (NLT). What will be the sign of Jesus’ return? Does the context say anything about “the last days”?

Can Anyone Predict the End of the World?

World events will not enable anyone to predict when the world will end, according to the scriptures in God’s Word, the Bible!

How do we know this for sure? Let’s take a look at what the scriptures say.

False Prophets and Prophecies – How to Identify Them

False Doctrines — “Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ” (1 John 4:1) Biblical ‘testing’ will help us to identify false prophets and prophecies.

The Bible tells us to discern the origin of prophecies. “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 NIV). According to the scriptures, we should ‘test all prophets and prophecies.’ The Bible gives us all the information we need to identify false prophets and prophecies.

1. Real prophecy strengthens the church.

“Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives—especially the ability to prophesy. For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious. But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.” (1 Corinthians 14:1-4 NLT). read more

Abortion – What Is God’s View?

The “world” has its viewpoint of things, including abortion, which is often not in harmony with God’s viewpoint (John 15:19,20; James 4:4; 1 John 5:19). Why is that?

“In the last days the times will be full of danger. Men will become utterly self-centred . . . They will be utterly lacking in . . . normal human affections. They will be remorseless . . . uncontrolled . . . reckless . . . loving what gives them pleasure instead of loving God” (2 Timothy 3:1-5 PHILLIPS) – Lack of natural affection was foretold, and is very evident in the world in general, which generally views abortion innocently and simply as a matter of “women’s health care”. Researchers are finding clues to cancer in shark genes.

Are humans really higher on the “evolutionary chain” than sharks? USA Today published an article on January 30, 2017 entitled: “Could sharks be the key to solving human cancer?”

A new study of shark DNA shows that unique evolutionary changes in immunity genes may explain how sharks’ open wounds heal so fast and why the ocean’s top predator rarely gets cancer.

But, scientist warn, simply eating shark meat or other parts won’t help humans battle cancer. In fact, eating sharks could be detrimental to human health because of high levels of mercury found in these “apex predators.” read more

Greece displays ‘7,000-year-old archaeological enigma’

“The figure was carved from granite in an era when there were no metal tools available”

BBC News posted an article on February 14, 2017 entitled: “Greece displays ‘7,000-year-old archaeological enigma.'” The article says the carved object is “7,000 years old, prior to the time that humans had developed metal tools”. Scientists have postulated that it took thousands of years of human evolution for humans to begin working with tools.

Too bad they ignore the Bible, because, instead it taking “thousands of years of human evolution for humans to begin working with tools,” the Bible accurately reports that within the first eight generations of human existence, which was at least 5,000 years ago (or, at least 6,000 years ago according to the ages listed in the Septuagint in Genesis 5 & 11), humans had developed metal tools. (Genesis 4:1; Gen 4:17-22 NJB) Tubal-cain, the Bible reports, “was the ancestor of all who work copper and iron.” This would demystify scientists’ “enigma.” read more

On February 13, 2017, BBC published an article entitled “How the Universe can expand if there is no extra space.”

The 2017 BBC Earth article asserted that the universe is not expanding into an external void. Instead, it explained that the “fabric” of space itself is stretching, meaning there is no outside edge or extra space for the universe to grow into.]

DO WE REALLY UNDERSTAND THE UNIVERSE?

As God asked Job 3,500 years ago: “Have you grasped the celestial laws?” (Job 38:33 NJB)

We know much more today than Job did then, but our answer would also be: “not really.”

However, the Bible does enlighten us far beyond science, although we appreciate good science.
