“At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you ahead of time. So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it.” (Mt 24:23-26)
“At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.” (Mk 13:21-23)
“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Lk 21:25-28)
The end will be sudden, unexpected.
“Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, ‘Peace and safety,’ destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.” (1 Thess 5:1-3)
Just like a thief in the night, then end will catch people off-guard.
“That day will come on you unexpectedly, like a trap.” (Lk 21:34b, 35a)
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” (Mt 24:42-44)
Be ready, because Jesus is coming when you don’t expect him.
“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’” (Mt 25:6)
“Midnight” return of Jesus is spoken of here, which represents him coming when he is least expected.
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” (Mt 25:13)
You don’t know the time.
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Mt 24:36)
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Mk 13:32)
Even Jesus doesn’t know the day or hour.
“Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’” (Mk 13:33-37)
Be alert, because you don’t know the time. Be like the doorkeeper, always alert to your Master’s coming.
“Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.” (Rev 16:15)
He is coming as a thief.
