In the USA each year, June is celebrated as ‘Homosexual Pride’ month. This is viewed as being very progressive, and those who don’t go along with it are viewed as old-fashioned, bigoted, and hateful. How does God view homosexual pride?

GAY?

“Ye have respect for him that cometh into your gathering in gay clothing . . . ” (James 2:3 KJV KJV)

First of all we want to note why we don’t use the term “Gay” to refer to “Pride”. “Gay” is a word whose meaning was equivocated into a euphemism for homosexual. This change in common usage occurred circa 1970, with the embrace of the so-called “sexual revolution” in mainstream culture. 

GOD’S VIEW

We have no need to speak for God. Nor do we have to guess at what he thinks. He speaks for himself, in his official word, the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

God’s view of any and all homosexual activity is spelled out for us in unmistakable terms.

“God gave them over to in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator . . . Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them”—(Romans 1:24-28,32 NIV)

The above describes what is celebrated by ‘Homosexual Pride’ month, celebrating the approval of those who practice what God, in his word, calls such “shameful lusts”.

IS A TOLERANT VIEW OF HOMOSEXUALITY PROGRESSIVE?

As noted above, many think that a favorable view of homosexuality is progressively modern. However, such practices are ancient, as we can see from the following historical narratives. 

“Now the men Sodom were evil and sinners, exceedingly so, against Yahweh” —(Genesis 13:13 LSB)

What exactly did Yahweh view as so sinful?

“Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom — both young and old — surrounded the house. They called out to Lot, ‘Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them'”—(Genesis 19:4-5 NIV)

The practice of homosexuality apparently was not only quite common and widespread in ancient Sodom and surrounding area, but was also viewed as an entitlement. Does this sound similar to today’s world?

Once again, we don’t have to guess at what God’s viewpoint is of such activity.

“Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.”—(Jude 1:7 ESV)

Almighty God was obviously not pleased with the people of the Sodom area, and executed his judgment, which obliterated the area of human life.

Homosexual pride isn’t progressive, it is a continuation of an ancient practice that God hates.

CAN HOMOSEXUALS CHANGE?

Yes, they can, and many have.

“Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral . . . not men who have sex with men . . . will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name not our Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God”—(1 Corinthians 6:9-11 NIV)

CONCLUSION

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings”—(Hebrews 13:8-9 LSB)

Today, it is asserted that things have changed, so that Christians need to adjust their views to the modern world, and “get with it”, “progress”, etc., that is, accept homosexuality as a “normal” practice. “Don’t be so judgmental”, they’re told. 

However, Yahweh God and his Son, Jesus Christ haven’t changed. They have a very unfavorable view of homosexual pride. Christians are warned against “strange teachings”, which deviate from God’s unchanging moral standards.
