Trinitarians often refer to Jesus Christ as “God the Son”. According to the scriptures, he is “the Son of God,” but not “God the Son”. Christians are “children of God”, and “brothers and sisters”  of Christ (Matthew 25:40; Hebrews 2:11; Matthew 12:50; Mark 3:35; Luke 8:21), but never “children of Christ” in the scriptures. According to the scriptures, Christians are “born of God” ( John 1:13; 1 John 3:9; 4:7; 5:1,4,18), but never “born of Christ”. Christ has “brothers and sisters” (Matthew 25:40; Hebrews 2:11; Matthew 12:50; Mark 3:35; Luke 8:21), but no children. God has “children”, but no brothers (Romans 8:14,15; Galatians 3:26; Revelation 21:6,7).

BIBLICAL REFERENCES TO CHRISTIANS AS “CHILDREN OF GOD”

The New Testament has a number of scriptures referring to Christians as “children of God” and “born of God”.

“Yet to all who did receive him, he gave the right to become children of God — children born not of natural descent, nor of human origin, but born of God”—John 1:12-13  NIV

“They will be called children of God”—Matthew 5:9 NIV

“All who are led by the Spirit of God are God’s children”—Romans 8:14 NLT

“The Spirit itself bears witness that we are children of God”—Romans 8:16 NAB

“In Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith”—Galatians 3:26 NIV

“That you may become . . .  children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation”—Philippians 2:15 NIV

“Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father”—Hebrews 12:7 NIV

“You know that God is righteous; then recognize that everyone who does what is righteous is his child”—1 John 2:29 REB

“the Father has lavished his love on us that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! . . . now we are children of God”—1 John 3:1,2 NIV

“This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are; ANYONE WHO DOES NOT DO WHAT IS RIGHT IS NOT GOD’S CHILD”—1 John 3:10 NIV

“No one who is born of God makes a practice of sinning” (1 John 3:9 ESV). 

“We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning” (1 John 5:18 NLT).

“We know that we are children of God” (1 John 5:19 NIV), not of Christ.

“He who was seated on the throne said . . . ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End . . . Those who are victorious will inherit all this and I will be their God and they will be my children”(Revelation 21:5-7 NIV). “Him who sits on the throne” (Revelation 21:5) is “our Lord and God” who “created all things” in Revelation 4:9-11 NIV. 

“BROTHERS AND SISTERS” OF CHRIST

“Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother” (Matthew 12:50; Mark 3:35; Luke 8:21 NIV).

“The king will reply, ‘ . . . these brothers and sisters of mine'” (Matthew 25:40 NIV). In the parable, “the king”, who is Jesus Christ, calls his disciples his “brothers and sisters”.

“Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. He says, . . . ‘Here am I, and the children God has given me'” (Hebrews 2:11,17 NIV). God has entrusted his “children” to the care of his Son, Jesus Christ, who does not have children of his own. God’s children are thus disciples of Christ.

CONCLUSION

The real clincher is that Christ himself is a child of God, so he cannot be God:

“We know that we anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe” (1 John 5:18 NIV). Jesus Christ is the one who “was born of God”. “This phrase refers to Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, who provides protection for believers.” (Bible Hub Study Bible.

As Jesus said, “the Father is greater than I am” (John 14:28), which proves the Trinity and its “God-man” false.
