“Faithful and Wise Servant” Double Flips on 1 Thessalonians 5:3
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that slave whose master finds him doing so so when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions”—Matthew 24:45-47 NIV).
The Jehovah’s Witnesses believe and teach that their leaders are”the faithful and wise servant” (their New World Translation uses the term “the faithful and discreet slave”) that is used by Jesus Christ to “provide spiritual food”, for people “at the proper time”:
PARABLE TURNED INTO PROPHECY
Notice how the JW’s equivocate the parable at Matthew 24:45-47 into a prophecy, and explain it so that only their leaders, whom they call, “the faithful and discreet slave” (Matthew 24:45 NWT), are used by Jesus Christ to “provide spiritual food”, for people “at the proper time”:
Read Matthew 24:45-47. Jesus foretold that during the time of the end, he would appoint a “faithful and discreet slave” to provide spiritual food. So we would expect that slave to be hard at work in our day. This has proved to be the case. Our overseer has used a small group of anointed men to provide God’s people and interested ones with spiritual “food at the proper time.”—The Watchtower (Study Edition) July 2022 Page 10
JW’s have been told they are to receive the teachings of their organization even more readily and confidently than the Beroeans received the apostle Paul’s teaching, thus putting their own teaching ahead of Paul teaching as recorded in the scriptures. Notice:
Are we to be doubtful and suspicious about each new provision? “He who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and blown about. In fact, let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from Jehovah.” (Jas. 1:6, 7, NW) Even the Beroeans first received Paul’s preaching “with the greatest readiness of mind”, and then went to “carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so”. (Acts 17:11, NW) This was the first real contact the Beroeans had with Paul’s preaching, yet they received it readily and then studied the Scriptural support for themselves. How much more readily we can receive the slave’s provisions with confidence, since, unlike the Beroeans, we have much past experience with the precious provisions from the slave. After receiving these food supplies we prove their Scripturalness for ourselves to make the message our own, in a spirit of meekness and trustfulness and not combativeness.—Watchtower 2-1- 1952, page 80
The “past experience with the precious provisions from the slave” should, even back in 1952, and even more so today, cause readers and listeners to be extremely cautious about believing what the JW organization puts forth as “spiritual food”, “at the proper time”, because of their error laden history.
The following gives us just one example of many that could be cited as evidence.
NOVENBER 2025 AND FEBRUARY 2026 CHANGES
In the November 2025 Study issue of The Watchtower, the Jehovah’s Witnesses (JW’s) changed their view on when the cry of “Peace and Security” at 1 Thessalonians 5:3 will be made in the future , and then, just 3 months later, in the February 2026 Study issue of The Watchtower, they changed their view on the timing of 1 Thessalonians 5:3 once again, as we note below:
As we considered in the “Questions From Readers” published in a recent issue of The Watchtower, Jehovah will soon put into the hearts of “the ten horns” (all the political powers) “his thought,” namely, that they give their power and authority to the “scarlet-colored wild beast”—the United Nations. This beast is also called “the image of the wild beast.” (Rev. 13:14, 15; 17:3, 16, 17) Then “the ten horns” and the newly empowered wild beast will remove false religion worldwide. Will the nations proclaim “peace and security” before or after the destruction of false religion?—1 Thess. 5:3.
Put simply, we do not know for sure the timing of the future proclamation of “peace and security.” If we knew all the details, we would not need to stay alert and watchful. Yet, Jesus repeatedly counseled his followers to “keep on the watch.” (Matt. 24:42; 25:13;26:41) Let us now take a close look at the inspired prophecy that the apostle Paul set out in his letter to the Thessalonians.
Paul wrote: “Whenever it is that they are saying, ‘Peace and security!’ then sudden destruction is to be instantly on them.” (1 Thess. 5:2, 3) Our publications have often explained Paul’s words this way: The proclamation of “peace and security” will be made just before the outbreak of the great tribulation, which begins with the destruction of Babylon the Great—the world empire of false religion. This future proclamation has been described as the final signal that the great tribulation is about to begin.
However, after further careful consideration, it seems that there is another possible explanation that we cannot rule out. Perhaps the proclamation of “peace and security” will be made after the destruction of false religion.—The Watchtower (Study Edition) February 2026 Questions From Readers
SCRIPTURAL ANALYSIS
What is astounding about this is that within a four month period, the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ “faithful and discreet slave” has had three different “provisions of spiritual food” regarding 1 Thessalonians 5:3.
“Your way is perfect, LORD, and your way is correct”—Psalm 18:30 CEV
“I, Yahweh, do not change”—Malachi 3:6 LSB
Yahweh God doesn’t make mistakes in what he provides. He also doesn’t “change”. The many changes to the “spiritual food” the JW’s “faithful and wise servant” has made over the years provides abundant evidence that it is not used by God in any kind of special way.
