Jesus’ Resurrection – Four Lines of Evidence

“We have confirmation of the words of the prophets”—2 Peter 1:19 NJB

Jesus' Resurrection
Was Jesus really resurrected?

1.       Jesus was really dead.

a.       Publicly executed before large crowds. (Matthew 27:39-44; Matthew 27:54-56; Mark 15:29-32; Mark 15:40-41; Lk 23:26-32; Luke 23:35-38; Luke 23:47-49; John 19:19-26)

b.      Certified as dead.

                                                               i.      By the centurion in charge of execution – a professional whose job it was to determine that death had taken place (Matthew 27:54; Matthew 15:39; Luke 23:47.)

ii.      By regional Roman governor Pontius Pilate, who sent to have Jesus’ death confirmed. (Mark 15:42-45) – He granted the corpse to Joseph of Arimathea (Matthew 28:57,58; Mark 15:42-45; Luke 23:50-53; John 19:38). read more
