The global flood, as described in the Bible book of Genesis, is considered to be a myth by many people and scholars today, but let’s look at how the Bible describes it
“When Noah was 600 years old, on the seventeenth day of the second month, all the underground waters erupted from the earth, and the rain fell in mighty torrents from the sky. The rain continued to fall for forty days and forty nights”—Genesis 7:11,12 NLT
“Finally, the water covered the highest mountains on earth, rising more than twenty-two feet above the highest peaks. All the living things on earth died–birds, domestic animals, wild animals, small animals that scurry along the ground, and all the people”—Genesis 7:19-22 NLTread more
The Bible tells us of a global flood, due to a tremendous amount of extra water being dumped onto the earth, to the point of covering all of earth’s highest mountains (Genesis chapters 6-8). This additional water caused sea levels to sharply rise globally, and means that sea levels were lower prior to this global flood.
“As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. In [those] days before the flood, the were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark. They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away. So it will be [also] at the coming of the Son of Man”—Matthew 24:37-39 NAB
Archaeologists have discovered a 7,000-year-old burial site in the Gulf of Mexico after a tip from a recreational diver who found human remains at the site in 2016. More details can be read in this article.
The ancient burial site discovered off the southwest Florida coast lends credence to what we know from the Bible about the flood in Genesis 6-8. The article states that “sea levels were much lower during that time”, and then goes on to say that “sea levels rose”. How does this harmonize with the Biblical account of the global flood?
“All the springs of the great deep burst through, and the sluices of heaven opened. And heavy rain fell on earth for forty days and forty nights” (Genesis 7:11 NJB). A gigantic amount of water was somehow released upon the earth within a relatively short time. Psalm 104:6,7 possibly explains where the water came from: “You covered it (the earth) with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. But at your rebuke they fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight” (NIV). They were released at the start of the flood.

Unknown ancient reptile roamed the Pyrenees mountains
An “unknown ancient reptile roamed the Pyrenees mountains” according to a BBC News article published on April 20, 2017.
“The footprints of a mysterious reptile that lived about 250 million years ago have been identified in fossils from the Pyrenees mountains.”
“Footprints” have been found, now an entirely new species has been discovered? And it’s “a member of the group that gave rise to crocodiles and dinosaurs?”
All from “footprints?”
“Fools base their thoughts on foolish assumptions.” (Ecclesiastes 10:13 [a] NLT)
From footprints to an entire animal, replete with its history.
The article also notes that in the past, “a mass extinction devastated life on land and in the oceans. Some 90% of species disappeared. At that time the Earth was very different from today.”
Hello? – Flood of Noah’s day, possibly?
“For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.

As the above article points out, Antartica had a rich ecosystem in the distant past, scientists have discovered. This is one of many evidences that there was a global flood.
“In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month–on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights”—Genesis 7:11,12 NIV
“For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died.Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.” (Genesis 7:17-23 NIV)
The remains, including the mosses found in Antartica, were apparently quick-frozen, and instantly preserved, at the flood of Noah’s day, as most of “the waters that were above the expanse” (Genesis 1:7 ESV; NASB), and also “all the springs of the great deep burst forth,” suddenly fell onto the earth. The 14 million years ago that scientists assign to the preservation of the freeze-dried moss in Antartica conflicts with the Biblical time period of about 4,500-6,000 years ago for the flood of Noah’s day, but it’s wise to keep in mind that scientists calibrations of some events have been proven to be off the mark.
One notable example of scientific dating’s huge miscalculations is the 1986 calibration of the age of a rock piece broken off of the “Little Grand Canyon” of Mount St. Helens, which itself had been formed in only three hours on June 12, 1980 . This six year old rock was calibrated by scientists in 1986 to be 2.4 million years old. So, while we’re grateful for much of the work of dedicated scientists, sometimes we see that
MSN News published an article on October 27, 2015 about extinct lion cubs being discovered in Siberian permafrost. The article reports:
“Two extinct cave lion cubs were discovered in permafrost in northeastern Siberia, a ‘sensational’ and unprecedented find according to The Siberian Times. The cubs are believed to be at least 10,000 years old, though they might be even older, and were found almost perfectly preserved thanks to the permafrost.
The region where the cubs were discovered, the Sakha Republic, has yielded discoveries before, including woolly mammoths, woolly rhinoceros, bison, and horses. The remains of the lions are the most complete specimens of their kind ever discovered, according to researchers involved.
Cave lions lived during the Middle to Late Pleistocene eras in Eurasia, the British Isles, to the far east of Russia, and into Alaska and northwestern Canada. Their extinction remains something of a mystery because they had few predators and, due to their smaller size, they wouldn’t get trapped in bogs like woolly mammoths and rhinos. One theory is that their extinction might have been due to a decline in prey. By studying the cubs, scientists hope to reach firmer conclusions.”
Apparently, this is another classic case of ancient animals being apparently quick-frozen by the global flood of Noah’s day, although the article doesn’t mention the global flood. It’s only a “mystery” to those who are either ignorant of, or deny, the global deluge. Of course, the best proof of the global flood is because the Bible tells us it really happened.
“Higher and higher on the earth the waters swelled, until all the highest mountains mountains under the heavens were submerged. The waters swelled fifteen cubits higher than the submerged mountains. All creatures that moved on earth perished: birds tame animals, wild animals, and all that teemed on the earth, as well as all humankind. Everything on dry land with the breath of life in its nostrils died” (Genesis 7:19-22 NAB). read more
The traditions of ancient peoples throughout the world share in common the inclusion of flood stories. The Mesopotamian accounts have garnered the most discussion since they are culturally closer to the Biblical material than any of the other non-Scriptural narratives. The most famous of the many ancient flood stories is the Mesopotamian flood account, the Babylonian version, found in the library of the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal (seventh century BCE) as part of the larger Epic of Gilgamesh.read more
