Christians, Pollution, and Climate Change

Should Christians be concerned with pollution and climate change?

With soaring, record high global temperatures, floods, fires, droughts, melting ice, sea level rise, and other climate extremes and disruptions in the news every day, should Christians be concerned about pollution and climate change? Some Christians feel that they are definitely saved, and bound for heaven, and that God will destroy the earth with fire, wrongly interpreting “fire” in 2 Peter 3:7,10  literally. Therefore, they feel no sense of responsibility to take care of the earth. Others feel so strongly about the climate change problem that they become climate activists, and protest about climate change in various ways, even going to extremes in some cases, even to the point of risking their lives for the climate. Is this how God wants us to think and act? While the Bible does not use the terms “climate change,” “pollution,” “global warming,” etc., we can gain insight into God’s thinking by examining various Bible statements and principles. read more

Who is the Antichrist According to the Bible?

Who is the Antichrist According to the Bible?

Who is the antichrist? In the past, much effort has been made to identify “The Antichrist” as being one prominent individual, such as Pompey, Nero, Mohammed, or the Papacy. Today, many preachers and denominations say there is going to appear on the world scene in the future, just before the end, a very charismatic world leader and deceiver that the Bible calls ‘THE ANTICHRIST.”  Such Biblical prognosticators even use scriptures from Daniel about the “little horn,” and Revelation about “a beast coming up out of the sea,” to “prove” their point. They have developed quite an elaborate story about what “The Antichrist” is “predicted” to do in the future. read more

What Name Should Christians Be Called, and Why?

What Name Should Christians Be Called, and Why?

Early Christians
When were Christians first called “Christians?”

The Name “Christians”

Today, Christians are called by such names as, Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, Baptists, Pentecostals, Methodists, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Lutherans, and many other names. But, according to the Bible, what name should Christians really be called, and why? How long has the term “Christian” been in use, and who invented it? The answer to these questions can be found in the Bible.

“It was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians” (Acts 11:26 NAB). God was behind the development of the use of the term “Christians” within a few years of the start of Christianity. Notice how this verse can also be rendered: “the disciples also were divinely called first in Antioch Christians” (Young’s Literal Translation). read more

Does Modern Israel Fulfill Bible Prophecy?

Does Modern Israel Fulfill Bible Prophecy?

Modern Israel
Does modern Israel fulfill Bible prophecy?

Does modern day “physical Israel” (1 Corinthians 10:18 JNT) fulfill Bible prophecy? Many claim that it does. They often cite Old Testament prophecies of restoration of the promised land to Israel, asserting that modern Israel does fulfill Bible prophecy. Frequently, they cite verses that seem to indicate fleshly Israel would have this land forever, such as:

“They will live on the land I gave to Jacob my servant, the land where their ancestors lived; they shall live on it always”—Ezekiel 37:25 NAB read more

USA today reports accusations of Catholic priests  involved in sex orgies, porn videos and prostitution in a news article dated March 9, 2017. Let’s take a look at the article:

Lurid accusations of priests involved in sex orgies, porn videos and prostitution have emerged from several parishes in Italy recently, sending shock waves all the way to the Vatican and challenging the high standards Pope Francis demands of clergy.

In the southern city of Naples, for example, a priest was recently suspended from the parish of Santa Maria degli Angeli over claims he held gay orgies and used Internet sites to recruit potential partners whom he paid for sex. read more

Will There Be A Great Revival Before the End?

Will There Be A Great Revival Before the End?

Will there be a great revival or influx of new Christians as we approach the end of the world as we know it?

Great Revival
1839 Methodist camp meeting

Many very devoted and sincere Christians strongly believe there will be, and are fervently praying for a widespread revival in Christianity.

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise . . . he is . . . not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance”—2 Peter 3:9 NIV. “God our Savior . . . wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth”—1 Timothy 2:3,4 NIV. The scriptures thus are very clear that God wants everyone to repent and be saved. The scriptures are also clear that Almighty God says: read more

Beliefs Unique To Jehovah’s Witnesses Are Unscriptural

Beliefs Unique To Jehovah’s Witnesses Are Unscriptural

Approved association with Jehovah’s Witnesses requires accepting the entire range of the true teachings of the Bible, including those Scriptural beliefs that are unique to Jehovah’s Witnesses. What do such beliefs include? …

“That there is a ‘faithful and discreet slave’ upon earth today ‘entrusted with all of Jesus’ earthly interests,’ which slave is associated with the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses. (Matthew 24:45-47) That 1914 marked the end of the Gentile Times and the establishment of the Kingdom of God in the heavens, as well as the time for Christ’s foretold presence. (Luke 21:7-24; Revelation 11:15–12:10) That only 144,000 Christians will receive the heavenly reward. That Armageddon, referring to the battle of the great day of God the Almighty, is near. (Revelation 16:14, 16; 19:11-21) That it will be followed by Christ’s Millennial Reign, which will restore an earth-wide paradise. That the first to enjoy it will be the present “great crowd” of Jesus’ “other sheep.”—John 10:16; Revelation 7:9-17; 21:3, 4.

Can Anyone Predict the End of the World?

Can Anyone Predict the End of the World?

End of the World
Can anyone predict the end of the world based on world events?

World events will not enable anyone to predict when the world will end, according to the scriptures in God’s Word, the Bible!

How do we know this for sure? Let’s take a look at what the scriptures say.

Matthew 24:4,5“Jesus answered: ‘Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, “I am the Messiah,” and will deceive many'” (NIV)

Mark 13:5,6“Jesus said to them: ‘Watch out that no one deceives you. Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many'” (NIV) read more

Abortion – What Is God’s View?

Abortion – What Is God’s View?

The “world” has its viewpoint of things, including abortion, which is often not in harmony with God’s viewpoint (John 15:19,20; James 4:4; 1 John 5:19). Why is that?

“In the last days the times will be full of danger. Men will become utterly self-centred . . . They will be utterly lacking in . . . normal human affections. They will be remorseless . . . uncontrolled . . . reckless . . . loving what gives them pleasure instead of loving God” (2 Timothy 3:1-5 PHILLIPS) – Lack of natural affection was foretold, and is very evident in the world in general, which generally views abortion innocently and simply as a matter of “women’s health care”. We often hear phrases like, “a woman has the right to chose what she does with her own body”. Is that all there is to it? Is it really that simple, just a private matter? Or, does God even care? How does God view deliberate abortion? read more

From relief to regret: Readers’ experiences of abortion

On January 30, 2017, BBC News published an article entitled “From relief to regret: Readers’ experiences of abortion.” The article can be found here: http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-38775641

Notice the high percentage of women who express regret and remorse over having had an abortion. Also, note the high percentage of those who view the unborn child as a human person, rather than a piece of tissue. A basic sense of right and wrong is programmed into each human by God. “I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts” (Hebrews 8:10 NIV). This is more or less true to an extent even among those who are not Christians. Of course, it is also true that the “consciences [of many people] have been seared as with a hot iron” (1 Timothy 4:2 NIV) after people begin to violate them over time. read more
