Our Milky Way Galaxy has at least 100 billion stars, possibly 200 to 400 billion or several trillion, and is spinning at the incredible speed of 490,000 miles per hour. But even at that super speed, it takes 200 million years to make just one rotation. If one could travel at the speed of light, it would take 100,000 years to cross it. The average distance between stars is estimated at about 36 trillion miles. There are estimated to be about two hundred billion total galaxies in the universe that are more or less similar to ours, some of which are much larger than the Milky Way galaxy.

This article is not intended to be a comprehensive study of the science of astronomy, but to point out how the universe gives much evidence of the existence of the Creator, Almighty God. Thus, the purpose of this article is to honor “the Lord God, the Almighty” who “created all things” (Revelation 4:8,11 NLT).

We surrounded by fantastic displays of God’s craftsmanship. Galaxies are not just scattered haphazardly throughout the universe. Most are arranged in clusters, sort of like bunches of grapes on a vine. Our Milky Way Galaxy is part of what astronomers call the “Local Group”, of about 20 galaxies, and there are thousands of these clusters. The Local Group of galaxies is in the Virgo supercluster of galaxies, and the Virgo supercluster of galaxies is in a much larger group called Laniakea. These gigantic clusters are arranged into what astronomers refer to as sheets and filaments, surrounded by huge voids.

Some scientists and astronomers say that the total number of stars in the universe is roughly equal to, or even greater than, the total number of all the grains of sand on all the beaches on the earth. Can grains of sand arrange themselves? This 13 billion year old sea of spinning stars and galaxies functions with extreme efficiency and remarkable order. Why?

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the earth. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat”—Psalm 19:1-4,6 NLT

How could all this extreme organization, or fine-tuning, have “always existed”, or “just happened”? To believe that the extremely complex universe happened by chance is absurd. Organization does not happen without an organizer, or designer. Design does not happen without a designer. To believe, or say, that the universe “just happened”, “evolved”, or “has always existed”, takes more faith, or rather, credulity, than to believe that God designed and created the universe.

We know that something cannot come from nothing, and all the provable scientific/astronomical evidence is that the universe had a beginning. Other articles on this site, and elsewhere, document this fact. Logic tells us the following:

1. Everything that has a beginning has a cause
2. The universe had a beginning
3. Since the universe had a beginning, it must have a cause
