Are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit Equal?
It is preached and widely believed that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are equal.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
“God’s Spirit” (1 Corinthians 3:16 NIV), is an “it” (John 1:32 ESV; John 14:17 NAB; Acts 2:33 NAB; Acts 8:16 NAB; Acts 11:15 NAB; Romans 8:17 NAB; Romans 8:26,27 NAB; 1 Peter 1:11 NAB), not a person. Therefore, no equality is possible for it.
THE CLAIM ABOUT JESUS
“For this reason the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the sabbath, but was also calling God his own Father, thereby making himself equal to God” (John 5:18 NRSV). This scripture is the one primarily used to claim that the Son is equal to the Father.
