Is The Law of Moses Useful Today? – Bible Contradiction?
Skeptics and critics have claimed that the Bible contradicts itself regarding the Law of Moses is useful for Christians today. Here is the alleged “contradiction”:
Is the Law of Moses useful?
(a) Yes. “All scripture is… profitable…” (2 Timothy 3:16)
(b) No. “ . . . A former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness… “(Hebrews
7:18)
This is a case of the scriptures being taken out of context.
The Old Mosaic Law Covenant was”set aside”, because it was “canceled” (Ephesians 2:14 NLT) since it could not permanently remove sin. “The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, but not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they never were able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship” (Hebrews 10:1 NLT).
The scriptures explaining the things about the Law of Moses are helpful to us today. It was “replaced” (2 Corinthians 3:11 NLT) by the “new covenant” which has “Christ” as its “mediator” (Hebrews (9:15). “For Sin shall not be lord over you, since you are subjects not of Law, but of grace.” (Romans 6:14 Weymouth). No longer under the Mosaic Law, but under the New Covenant, Christians are able to more fully receive God’s grace, and have their sins removed.
This New Covenant is superior because Jesus Christ ‘is always able to save those who approach God through him” (Hebrews 7:25 NAB) by permanently removing sins.
That being said, the Old Mosaic Law Covenant had its purpose. “Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith” (Galatians 3:24 NKJV). The Mosaic Law illustrated the need for a Savior from sins, because “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).
In this regard, Jesus made clear that, “until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished” (Matthew 5:18 NIV). The Mosaic Law had its place then, and it does now, but not in the same way.
Also, the Scriptures tell us, “Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled” (Romans 15:4 NLT). This includes the Old Mosaic Law. There is a lot we can learn from the principles expressed in the Mosaic Law.
So, yes, the scriptures are clear that the Old Law of Moses is useful to us even today!

The original question here was: “Is The Law of Moses Useful Today?” The answer is “No, of course not.” Most of that law is incorrect and modern ethics and laws are far better. Moses allegedly brought that law from God to the Jews, but we now know that God does not exist. This has been proven. The Law of Moses is irrational, incorrect, and obsolete. We can now ignore it.
Atheistic views are considered irrational on this website (Romans 1:20; Psalm 14:1; 53:1).
By the way, have you finished reading Ehrman’s ‘Heaven-Hell’ book?
But atheism is the rational view, and theism is the irrational view. God does not exist. This has been proven. I have presented at least two of my proofs for this, and you found no errors in them.
No, I have not finished Erhman’s book. It is a long book. I’m in no hurry. But when I finish, I will write follow up responses.
